Life has gotten busy once again as we begin to live and work in Mexico. Here is what has kept us occupied this month.

La vida ha sido ocupada mientras empezamos a vivir y trabajar en México.  El siguente es lo que ha pasado en este mes. 

·      We finally received our temporary residency in Mexico and finalized the approval for our vehicle to remain with us this year.  A one-year residency is the most we can get for now, but we hear that next year’s process of renewal is much easier.

Finalmente recibimos la residencia temporal de México y la aprobación para el vehículo.  Una residencia de un año es lo más que podemos recibir por ahora, pero escuchamos que el proceso de renovación es más simple.

·      The migrant caravan has now arrived to the border with the USA, and we are proud of how the Church of the Nazarene has responded to the needs of the people.  It is a VERY complicated situation, but when people are in need, real need, we are called to help.  Our friends and coworkers have been traveling with the caravan for many weeks, attending to the medical needs and supplying water and food.  La caravana de migrantes ha llegado a la frontera con los Estados Unidos, y somos orgullosos de la Iglesia del Nazareno por como han respondido a las necesidades de la gente.  Es una situación MUY complicada, pero cuando vemos gente con necesidades, necesidades reales, somos llamados a ayudar. Nuestros amigos y compañeros de trabajo han viajado con la caravana for semanas, atendiendo a las necesidades medicas y dando comida y agua.  

·      Traveling to meet District Superintendents and other leaders on the districts has been a great way to start working in Mexico. There are 15 districts here, so it was not possible to visit each location as of yet, but we are working on it!  David has met 11 of the 15 Superintendents of Mexico, so he is off to a good start!  Viajando para conocer los Superintendentes de Distritos y otros líderes en los distritos ha sido una muy buena manera de empezar el trabajo en México.  Hay 15 distritos acá, por eso no fue posible visitar cada uno, pero estamos trabajando en hacer eso.

·      The first trip we took together was to Juchitan, the city in Oaxaca that had serious damage from the earthquake last year. The construction continues, but life is getting slowly back to normal for the people there.  Nuestro primer viaje juntos fue a Juchitan, la ciudad en Oaxaca que tenía daños serios del terremoto en el año pasado.  La construcción continua, y la vida ha empezado a ser más normal para la gente allí.

The First Church of the Nazarene in Juchitan which was severly damaged by the earthquake.  They have church services now in their gym and hope to repair this part of the building soon. La Primera Iglesia de Juchitan con mucho daño. Ahora tienen los cultos en el gimnasio y esperan reparar el edificio pronto.

·      The District Assemblies occur each year on the Mexico field in November, and David attended 8 of the 15 meetings. We had the opportunity to travel with Dr. David and Sharon Graves (General Superintendent-highest office in the church), and it was so fun to get to know them.  Also, we got to know spend time with our friend and boss, Dr. Jorge Cordova as we traveled from place to place.    Las Assembles Distritales pasen cada año en el país de México en noviembre y David asistió 8 de las 15 reuniones.  Tuvimos la oportunidad de viajar con Dr. David Graves y Sharon Graves (El es uno de los 6 Superintendentes General para la Iglesia del Nazareno).  Fue una bendición viajar con ellos y conocerlos más. También, pasamos tiempo con nuestro amigo y jefe Dr. Jorge Cordova y su esposa Irma mientras viajamos de un lugar a otro.

·      We celebrated Thanksgiving with some missionary friends.  Of course, Thanksgiving is not a holiday here, so we had our fiesta on Friday night, complete with turkey, stuffing and other fixings.  YUM!    Celebramos Acción de Gracias con amigos misioneros.  Por supuesto, no es un día feriado en México y por eso tuvimos la fiesta el viernes en la noche.  La cena incluyó pavo y otras comidas típicas para el día.  ¡Que rica la comida!

We are enjoying working with the Sickel family once again.  Estamos disfrutando trabajando con los Sickel otra vez.

·      Our shipment from Costa Rica arrived two days after Thanksgiving!  And yes, we were thankful.  We have been busy unpacking and turning our apartment into our home. 

La mudanza llegó de Costa Rica dos días después de Acción de Gracias.  Y sí, estuvimos bien agradecidos.  Hemos trabajado en la casa para desempacar todo y convertirlo a ser nuestro hogar.  

Upcoming Events/Eventos Próximos

We will be traveling some in December to and area called La Huasteca to meet with leaders there.  They have great plans for their people including a focus on theological education and beginning the work on a new district center.    Vamos a viajar en diciembre hasta La Huasteca para reunirnos con los líderes allí.  Ellos tienen grandes planes para su distrito incluyendo un enfoque en la educación teológica y en empezar a construir un centro distrital.

Kayley will arrive for a one month visit in a couple weeks.  She has final exams soon, so we appreciate your prayers for her.

Kayley viene para visitarnos en dos semanas.  Ella tiene sus examines muy pronto y apreciamos sus oraciones para ella.

We Have Arrived/Hemos Llegado

Where do we live now?  Look for Tuxtla Gutierrez at the bottom of the Mexico map, not far from Guatemala.  We live in Barriozabál, just 20 minutes west of Tuxtla.

Hola and Hello a todo el mundo and everyone!

We are so thankful to be safe and sound in Berriozabal, Chiapas, Mexico.  God has answered our prayers to bring us safely to this place of service as missionaries. 

Somos muy agradecidos estar en Berriozabal, Chiapas, México salvo y sano.  Dios ha respondido a nuestras oraciones a traernos a este lugar de servicio como misioneros.

We will miss Casa #41.  It was our home for 11 years.

Since we last updated the blog, we have visited Costa Rica to plan for our move, then to Portland for a W&W Conference, then to Chicago to complete the residency process at the consulate, then we split up for a bit and David went to Colombia (yes, South America) for meetings while Shelley went to Columbus, Ohio for another W&W Conference.  It was a busy couple of weeks, but all went well.

We got to see many of our great CR friends, including the Salazar family, fellow missionaries from Guatemala.

Desde el ultimo blog, hemos visitado a Costa Rica para hacer los arreglos para la mudanza, después fuimos a Portland, Oregon para la Conferencia de TyT, luego fuimos a Chicago para terminar el proceso de residencia en el consulado, y después David fue a Colombia (sí, en Sur América) para reuniones y Shelley fue a Columbus, Ohio para otra conferencia de TyT.  Fue un tiempo bien ocupado, pero todo pasó bien.

After all that, we began the journey to Chiapas, Mexico from Chicago, IL.  In all, it was a trip of 2600+ miles.  We made stops in Iowa to retrieve the items we had in the States (thanks to our family and friends who allowed us to stay in their homes and for putting up with us for these months), then to Kansas City, then Waco, TS, then McAllen, TX (thanks to the Buell family) where we picked up Joshua at the airport, and then we entered Mexico on Thursday morning very early.

We ran into (literally) a monarch migration in Southern Texas.  That was a new one for us!

Después de todo esto, empezamos el viaje a Chipas, México desde Chicago, IL.  En total, fue un viaje de más de 4100 kilometros.  Paramos en Iowa para recoger nuestras cosas allí (muchas gracias a familia y amigos que han recibido a nosotros en estos meses), después viajamos a Kansas City, entonces Waco, TX y luego a McAllen, TX (gracias a la familia Buell por recibirnos) donde recogemos a Joshua en el aeropuerto, y finalmente entramos a México el jueves temprano en la mañana.

We are thankful for a quick process at the border, after we found the offices we needed – that was a fun 20 minutes driving around in circles in the dark at the border!  But once we located where we needed to be, it went quickly.  We were the ONLY people there at 6:15am. 

Damos a gracias a Dios por un proceso rápido en la frontera, después de encontrar la oficina – ¡no fue muy divertido manejar por 20 minutes en el oscuro cerca de la frontera! 

We enjoyed the drive through Monterrey.  So beautiful.  Then onto Santiago de Querétaro where we stayed the night.  The final day was long, leaving at 5:30am with a delay of about an hour along the way.  We finally pulled into our new home in Berriozabal at 7:30pm.  51 hours of driving! WE MADE IT!

Gozamos el camino por Monterrey.  Muy hermosa.  Llegamos a Santiago de Querétaro en la noche y quedamos allí.  El día final fue muy largo, saliendo a las 5:30am, con un atraso de una hora en la carretera.  Finalmente, llegamos a la nueva casa en Berriozabal a las 7:30pm.  51 horas manejando. ¡LO HICIMOS!

Monterrey, Mexico

Since then, we have learned to drive in Tuxtla, a city of about 650,000 people.  Actually, we know how to drive around the city, not in the city, but one step at a time.  We have learned where the grocery stores are and how to get to the airport.  Shelley even made the airport trip all by herself (50 minutes) to pick up David and Stephen after their 6 day visit to Guadalajara.  Making progress!

Desde llegar, hemos aprendido como manejar en Tuxtla, una ciudad de 650,000 personas. En realidad, sabemos como manejar alrededor de la ciudad, no adentro, pero estamos aprendiendo paso a paso.  Hemos aprendido donde están los supermercados y el camino para el aeropuerto.  Shelley hizo la ruta sola (50 minutos) para recoger a David y Stephen después del viaje de 6 días en Guadalajara. ¡Estamos avanzando más cada día!

We are so pleased with all the work done to make our apartment a home. 

Shelley had her birthday just two days after arriving, so we all enjoyed celebrating the start of a new year for her.  Glory to God.

Shelley celebró su cumpleaños dos días después de llegar, entonces todo celebramos el nuevo año de vida para ella.  Gloria a Dios.

We visited Juchitán in the Oaxaca (pronounced Wahaca) district where the earthquake caused so much damage more than one year ago.  Rebuilding continues and we enjoyed meeting a team from Sutter Creek, CA and a few of the Mexican district leaders.

Visitamos a Juchitán en el distrito de Oaxaca donde el terremoto causó mucho daño hace más de un año.  Todavía están en construcción allí y disfrutamos conocer un equipo de TyT de Sutter Creek, CA y también algunos líderes de distritos.

The residency process is nearly completed!  We are approved, but have yet to see our official residency card.  We hope within a few more days.  The process for the move of our household items is linked to this residency, so we are praying it will happen quickly.  Our hope is to have our bed, sofa, and kitchen items by Thanksgiving. 

¡El proceso de residencia ya casi está terminado!  Somos aprobados, pero todavía no hemos recibido la cedula.  Esperamos recibirlas en los próximos 2-6 días.  El proceso para la mudanza es vinculado a la residencia, entonces oramos que pasa rápido.  Nuestra esperanza es tener la cama, sofá y cosas de la cocina antes de Acción de Gracias en noviembre. 

We are enjoying being near our friends the Sickel family once again.  Their kids are growing, and here is a photo of the three of them playing “train” in our small apartment. 

Estamos contentos estar viviendo cerca de nuestros amigos Los Sickel otra vez.  Sus niños están creciendo rápido.  La foto abajo muestra cuanto.  Ellos están jugando “tren” en nuestro apartamento pequeño.

Kayley and Joshua continue to do well in the USA.  A special thanks to Joshua for taking vacation days to drive with us through Mexico and eat tacos along the way.  It was much more fun with Joshua along for the ride and adventure.  Kayley is studying hard as always in the nursing classes.  Keep her in prayer as she finishes up the fall term in six weeks. 

Kayley y Josué están bien en los Estados Unidos.  Queremos dar un gracias especial a Josué quien tomó sus días de vacación para acompañarnos en el viaje hasta Chiapas y comer tacos con nosotros. Fue más divertido tener a Josué con nosotros para la aventura.  Kayley está estudiando mucho como siempre en el programa de enfermería.  Por favor, orar por ella en estos finales 6 semanas de su semestre.

Please pray for the residency and moving process to end well.  The final step for residency will be to register our vehicle at the border near Tapachula.  I am sure you have heard about the 7000+ immigrants who are entering the border there to walk northward to the USA.  The Nazarene church has been on the front line in serving food and giving medical attention. 

The situation is so very complex.  We do not have the answers to solve all these problems, but we can help those who are suffering.  As soon as we get our documents, we plan to head in that direction to complete our own immigration process, and to see if we can be of any help to those already working with those in the caravan.

Por favor, orar por la residencia y mudanza.  El paso final para residencia será a registrar el vehículo en la frontera cerca de Tapachula.  Estoy seguro que ustedes han oído sobre las 7 mil personas entrando en la frontera de México para caminar hasta Los Estados Unidos de América.  La Iglesia del Nazareno ha estado ayudando a muchas personas cerca de la frontera dando comida y atención medica. 

La situación es muy compleja.  No tenemos todas las respuestas, pero podemos ayudar a los que sufren.  Cuando recibimos nuestros documentos, vamos a viajar hasta Tapachula para tratar de terminar nuestro proceso migratorio y para ver si podemos ser una ayuda para los que ya están trabajando con los inmigrantes.

September Update

Hello Friends/ Hola amigos,

We have been traveling to visit churches in Kansas, Ohio and Illinois as part of a short home assignment before we make the move to Chiapas, Mexico.  We have enjoyed seeing lots of friends along the way, as well as our kids who are in Ohio. 

Hemos estado viajando para visitar varias iglesias en Kansas, Ohio and Illinois durante la gira misionera antes de mudarnos a Chiapas, Mexico.  Hemos disfrutado viendo muchos amigos en el camino, includo nuestros hijos en Ohio.

Many of you know our kids, so here is a quick update on them/ Muchas de ustedes conocen nuestros hijos y por eso aquí hay un resumen de sus vidas.

Kayley – 20 years old now and a junior at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio.  She is a nursing major and although her courses are difficult, she loves what she is studying, especially the clinical experiences she gets each week.

Kayley tiene 20 años y estudia en su tercer año en Mount Vernon Nazarene University en Ohio.  Ella estudia enfermeria y aunque sus cursos son dificiles, ella disfruta todo lo que está estudiando, especialmente las experiences en el hospital cada semana.

She had a great summer, spending two months in Mexico.  She has taught us some of the words that we will need to use in Chiapas (chido instead of chiva!).  Just before classes began, she experienced skydiving!  She is an adventure seeker and loved it!  Now she wants to bungee jump!

Ella tenía un verano muy bueno, pasando dos meses en México.  Ella nos ha enseñado algunas palabras nuevas que vamos a usar en Chiapas (chido en lugar de chiva!). Antes de empezar sus classes, ella tenia la advenvtura de "skydiving." Ella le gusta la aventura y disfrutó mucho la experiencia!  Ahora ella quiere hacer "bungee jump!" 

Joshua – 24 years old, graduated from MVNU two years ago and is working in a bilingual position at a company near Columbus that helps small businesses develop their marketing online.  He enjoys this new position that he has been in since March.  He is dating Lilly who lives in West Virginia (a beautiful person inside and out).  Joshua is going to fly to McAllen, TX in early October to drive with us the 20+ hour trip to Chiapas.  We are thankful for his help and his adventurous spirit!

Joshua tiene 24 años, se graduó de MVNU hace dos años y está trabajando en un puesto bilingue en en negocio cerca de Columbus, Ohio que ayuda a los micro empresas a desarroloar su promoción en linea. El le gusta su nuevo trabajo despues de empezar en marzo.  Tiene novia, Lilly, quien vive en West Virginia (una bonita persona, adentro y afuera). Joshua va a volar a McAllen, Texas en octubre para ayudarnos a manejar los 20+ horas a Chipas.  !Estamos agradecidos por su ayuda y su espiritu de aventura! 

 A huge blessing of this transition time has been to see some of our family, including our kids.  Here are few photos of some special times with David's family./ Una bendicion durante este tiempo de transicion ha sido la oportunidad de ver la familia, incluyendo nuestros hijos.  Aquí hay algunos fotos de la familia de David.

Baby Owen loves Uncle David.  We enjoyed time with David's sister Tina and her son and family.

David's Mom moved into an apartment in Des Moines and for the first time in 3 years all the Webb kids were together.

 

If you missed the last blog from August, check it out.  Lots of prayer requests listed there.  We are thankful for how God is answering those needs./ Si no has leido el blog del mes pesado, debe revisarlo.  Hay muchas peticiones para oración allí. Estamos agadecidos por como Dios está respondiendo a los necesidades.

• Successful interview at the Mexican consulate in Chicago.  All paperwork is not complete.  We hope to pick up our visas to enter Mexico in two weeks, just in time. 
• We sold our vehicle in Curacao.  This was a huge answer to prayer.
•  We are in Costa Rica to prepare to move our household good to Mexico.  Lots of work to be done, but we know God will be with us in the process.
•  Portland Work and Witness Conference – Sept 15-16^th.  We look forward to talking to people about Partnership opportunities!
•  David will travel to Colombia at the end of the month.  Pray for safe travel and productive, inspired meetings.
•   We will leave for Mexico the first week of October, hoping to arrive to our new home by Friday night October 5^th. 

• - La entrevisa en el consulado de Mexico en Chicago fue un exito.  Todos los papeles están listos.  Esperamos recibir los visas para México en dos semanas, justo a tiempo!
•  Hemos vendido el carro en Curacao.  Gloria a Dios!
•  Estamos en Costa Rica para la mudanza.  Hay mucho que hacer, pero sabemos que Dios está con nosotros.
•  Conferencia de TyT en Portland - 15 y 16 de setiembre.  Estamos emocionados hablar con muchas personas sobre Partnership.
•    David va a Columbia en el fin del mes.  Oramos por un buen viaje con reuniones productivos y inspirados.
•  Viajamos a México la primera semana de octubre, esperando a llegar el viernes 5 de octubre.
