Despedidas/Goodbyes (June 2019)

Saludos a todos/Greetings to everyone from David and Shelley:

A negative part of missionary life are all the goodbyes. On June 28^th, we said “see ya later” to the Sickels as they moved to the KC area to serve in Global Work and Witness. We tried to make the best of it by celebrating with them this week the 4 years they have served in Mexico. 

Un parte negativo de la vida misionero son los despedidas. El 28 de junio, decimos "hasta pronto" a los Sickel quien se muda a Kansas City, USA para servir en TyT Global.  Tratamos de hacer la despedida más feliz por celebrar con ellos esta semana los 4 años de servir en México.

We are now coordinating Work and Witness (interim) and Partnerships for Mexico, so there is much to do.  In June, Shelley and Jessi visited Merida with two purposes: to attend the missionary training event and to see a Work and Witness district project.  

Ahora estamos coordinadores para TyT (interino) y Partnerships en México, y por eso hay mucho que hacer.  En junio, Shelley y Jessi visitaron a Mérida con dos propósitos:  asistir al evento de COM y para ver un proyecto de TyT del distrito.

David enjoyed attending the dedication of the El Admirable Sanctuary in Oaxaca.  The majority of the Work and Witness projects related to the destruction from the earthquake in 2017 have been completed. Thanks to all who helped in the recovery and construction efforts.

David disfrutó asistir la dedicación del templo de El Admirable y de Monte de Sión en Oaxaca.  La mayoría de los proyectos TyT relacionados a la destrución del terremoto en 2017 ha sido terminado.  Gracias a todos de ustedes que los ayudaron con el trabajo.

The Lazarian Homes Partnership continues with the project this month at the Emmanuel Church in Juchitan.  Lazarian uses a polyurethane block to build strong, long-lasting buildings. The foundation partners with organizations to build churches, parsonages, etc throughout the world. The Emmanuel educational meeting facility is the current project.  We look forward to next week when a team from the NW USA district arrives to finish up the work.  

El Partnership con Lazarian Homes continúa con el proyecto en este mes en la iglesia Emmanuel en Juchitan.  Lazarian usa los block de poliuretano para construir edificios fuertes y duros. Ellos se hacen socios con otras organizaciones alrededor del mundo.  El proyecto de Emmanuel es un edificio para educación y reuniones.  Estamos esperando el grupo de TyT del noroccidental de los Estados para llegar en una semana para terminar el proyecto.

The best news of the month is that Kayley is here with us for the summer.  She spent one month of her summer break in Ohio working at Panera, but now she is here in Mexico for two months before returning to MVNU for her senior year.  She will graduate in May 2020 with a degree in health sciences with plans to continue on to complete a masters in Occupational Therapy.  

La noticia más bonita de este mes es que Kayley está con nosotros por el verano. Ella pasó un mes de su vacación de classes en Ohio trabajando en el restaurante Panera, pero ahora ella está con nosotros por dos meses en México antes de regresar a la universidad para el año final. Ella se gradúa con un titulo en sciencia medica con planes de continuar sus estudios para obtener una maestria en terapia ocupacional.

Josh continues his work in Ohio in a bilingual position with a nationwide promotional company serving small businesses.  He is learning more every day and enjoys playing basketball at work and soccer on the weekends.  

Josh continua su trabajo en Ohio en una posición bilingual con una empresa promocional que trabaja en todo de los Estados Unidos y sirve a los negocios pequeños.  El aprende más cada día y disfruta jugando baloncesto en su trabajo y fútbol los fines de semanas. 

Prayer requests/Peticiones de oracion:

1. Por este tiempo de transicion en el ministerio. For this time of transition in the ministry.

2. Por nuestros hijos y sus decisiones para el futuro. For our kids and the decisions they need to make for the future.

3. For the volunteer missionaries that work with us/Por los misioneros voluntarios que trabajan con nosotros: Jessi, Max, Mitchel y Mario.

May Happenings in Mexico and Beyond

No way! Another month has passed already? Hard to believe we are now to the first of June. We have been blessed to spend the last 8 months in Mexico and although we are sad to have our friends and coworkers, the Sickel family, moving from a missionary position to a Global Mission position in Lenexa, KS, we are excited about how God is making the way for us to help with Work and Witness and Partnerships in Mexico.

¡No puede ser! ¿Otro mes ha terminado?  Es dificil creer que ya estamos en junio.  Hemos sido bendicios compartir estos 8 meses en México y aunque estamos bien tristes a despedir nuestros amigos y colaboradores en el ministerio, la familia Sickel, quienes están mudandose a servir con Mision Global en Lenexa, Kansas USA, estamos entusiasmados sobre como Dios está planeando todo para nosotros a ayudar con TyT y Partnerships en México.

We traveled to Nashville, TN and the MidSouth District (our home district) to attend the District Assembly.  The ordination service was a special time for us, and it was fun to see so many great friends from years past. The beautiful campground of Camp Garner Creek did not disappoint.  Beautiful as always.  

Viajamos a Nashville, Tennessee y el distrito de MidSouth (nuestro distrito) para asistir la Asamblea Distrital.  El culto de la ordinacion fue especial para nosotros y fue divertido ver tantos amigos de los años pasados.  El campamento de Garner Creek fue bonito, como siempre.

We spoke at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene (Franklin, TN), Gray’s Chapel (Cunningham, TN), Trevecca Towers (Nashville), Paris COTN, Woodlawn COTN, and finally, Erin COTN.  We were blessed in each location.   

Hablamos en varias iglesias cerca de Nashville. (Puedes ver la lista arriba).  Recibimos muchas bendiciones en cada iglesia.

We enjoyed some family time in Iowa for Mother’s Day week.  It was a memorable family time that we do not get to enjoy too often.

Disfrutamos tiempo con la familia en Iowa para el día de la madre.  Fue un tiempo memorable que no podemos experimentar mucho.

We arrived home to Berriozabal, Chiapas and hit the ground running. We are taking over some new responsibilities like ordering water, paying electric and other bills, and working with the finances for Work and Witness Mexico. There is lots to get used to, but we are well on our way. 

Llegamos a casa en Berriozabal, Chiapas y empezamos a trabajar inmediatamente.  Tenemos nuevas responsibilidades como ordenar el agua, pagar la luz y otros gastos y trabajando con las finances de TyT México.  Hay mucho que aprender.

We took a one day trip to the Sur Sierra district to view four projects: a rehab center for drugs addicts, and three growing missions/churches in need of a parsonage or a roof on the church. One of the ways we serve is to connect people to projects like these, so let us know if you would like to join the five Partnerships already taking place in Mexico. 

Tomamos un día para visitar el distrito de Sur Sierra para ver 4 diferentes proyectos:  un centro de rehablitacion, y tres diferentes iglesias o misiones que están crecidendo y necesitan un techo o casa pastoral.  Una manera que servimos es conectar la gente con proyectos así.  Déjanos saber si quiere ser parte de un Partnership en México.

Stephen and Anne, along with some valiant helpers, made the long drive from Berriozabal to Kansas City in three days, with three vehicles and most of their stuff.  We got the good end of the deal and stayed with the kiddos for a few days.  Happy to report that everyone survived, the border crossing went well, and Anne is back home with the kids.  Whew!

Stephen y Ana y algunos amigos valientes, hicieron el viaje de Berriozabal hasta Kansas City en tres días, con tres vehiculos y la mayoria de la mudanza.  Tuvimos la bendicion de quedarnos con los niños por algunos días.  Estamos contentos reportar que todos sobrevivieron, la cruzada en la frontera fue bueno y Ana está en casa ahora con los niños.

Then we had the privilege of attending the Genesis Misisonary Retreat in Queretaro.  We flew to Mexico City, then took a bus to Queretaro (3.5 hours). It was easy to do, and we enjoyed our time with the four Genesis missionaries who are church planting in Queretaro. They have been in the location for about six months and already have approximately 100 people they are working with through various ministries.  Now we are praying for a location so that they all can meet together for Bible Studies, Worship and other ministries. 

Tuvimos el privilegio asistir el retiro para Genesis en Queretaro.  Volamos a la Ciudad de México y despues tomamos un bus para llegar a Queretaro (3.5 hrs).  Fue muy facil y disfrutamos mucho nuestro tiempo con los cuatro misioneras que están plantando una iglesia en la ciudad.  Ellas han estado allá por seis meses y ya tienen 100 personas en sus grupos.  Estamos orando por un espacio para reunir todos para los estudios biblicas, cultos y otros ministerios.

Life transitions just keep coming and soon we will say goodbye to the Sickel family.  Their move brings many changes to our lives, not the least of which is missing their family of five.  But beyond that, there are ministry needs to consider. We are pleased to be working with such a good team of volunteers who have hearts for the Work and Witness ministry. Jessi, Max, Mitchel and Mario are all great volunteers who make our lives much easier.  

Transiciones en la vida continúa y pronto tenemos que despedir la familia Sickel.  Su salida trae cambios a nuestros vidas, y por supuesto vamos a extrañar mucho todos de ellos.  Además, hay necesidades ministeriales también.  Estamos contentos tener un buen grupo de voluntarios quienes tienen llamados de Dios para trabajar con TyT.  Jessi, Max, Mitchel, y Mario son algunos de ellos que hacen el ministerio más facil para nosotros.

Good news!  We understand that a donor in Idaho would like to offer his pickup truck to W&W Mexico. This is great news since we really need a truck for the ministry.  The only issue is the funding to bring it into Mexico: $5000 is needed.  If you would like to contribute to these costs so the ministry can have a truck to haul supplies and visit projects, just let us know. Our car is just not sufficient for the W&W ministry.

¡Buenas noticias¡  Entendemos que hay un donador en Idado que quiere ofrecer su pickup para TyT México.  Son buenas noticas y realmente necesitamos esta ayuda.  El problema es que cuesta como $5,000 dólares para importar el carro a México.  Estamos orando por esta necesidad pues nuestro carro no es suficiente para el ministerio de TyT.

Two Partnership Teams

Hello Everyone!  Hola a todos!

From March 5^th to April 6^th, we stayed busy hosting two partnership teams.  Here is the rundown on the ministry activities that took place./ Del 5 de marzo hasta el 6 de abril, estuvimos ocupados ayudando dos equipos de Partnership.  Aquí abajo es el resumen de las actividades ministeriales.

Mezcala is a small town about 45 minutes from Guadalajara.  David, Stephen and two volunteers worked with the team from Lodi, California who came to help with the construction of the Mezcala Center and to make future plans for evangelism and compassionate ministry projects in the area.

Mezcala es un pequeño pueblo que queda 45 minutos de Guadalajara.  David, Stephen y dos voluntarios trabajaraon con el group de Lodi, CA quien llegó para ayudar con la construcción del centro en Mezcala y para hacer planes futuros para ministerios en el área.

It was a great week, even with the unfortunate medical emergency that occurred to a team member.  We are glad to say that the team member made it home safe and sound, even before the team arrived home, after suffering a brain clot two days after his arrival to Mexico.  We praise the Lord for such great medical care in Guadalajara and for the Work and Witness insurance that once again showed its worth.

Fue una buena semana, aunque había una emergencia medica que occurió al un miembro del equipo.   Estamos muy contentos decirles que él regresó a casa sano y salvo antes de que el equipo llegó, después de sufrir un derrame dos días después de su llegada a Mexico.  Alabamos al Señor por proveer muy buena atención medica en Guadalajara y por el seguro de TyT que una vez más mostró su valor.  

The second team arrived to San Luis Potosi on March 24^th.  The five team members came from the Nampa College Church. From there, we drove 5 hours to Tamazunchale to work with the pastors and leaders of the district on the seminary building.

El segundo equipo llegó a San Luis Potosí el 24 de marzo.  Los cinco miembros del grupo vienen de la iglesia de Nampa College.  De allí, manejamos cinco horas a Tamazunchale para trabajar con los pastores y lideres del distrito en el edificio del seminario.

Lots of cleaning, plumbing and painting occurred that week, along with the purchase of tables, chairs, mattresses and a projector.  / Mucha limpieza, plomería y pintando sucedió la primera semana, además la compra de mesas, sillas, colchones y un proyector.

The second week of the team was a continuing educational course for all the pastors.  It was a church development course and Dr. Eric Buell and Dr. Carol Rotz did the majority of the teaching, with David participating for a day as well.  Shelley translated for Carol.  It was a great two weeks.

La segunda semana fue un curso de educación continua para los pastores.  Fue un curso de desarrollo de la iglesia enseñado de Dr. Eric Buell y Dr. Crol Rotz, con la ayuda de David por un día.  Shelley interpretó para Carol.  Fue dos semanas muy especiales.

Another highlight was meeting up with the 4 Genesis missionaries working in Queretero.  We look forward to seeing them again at the end of May./ Otro momento especial fue reuniendo con los 4 misionerias de Genesis trabajando en Queretero.  Estamos contentos saber que vamos a verlas otra vez en el fin de mayo.

We were glad to get home after traveling by car so much (20 hours to arrive to Tamazunchale from Berriozabal where we live). Estuvimos muy contentos llegar a casa después de manejar tanto por carro (20 horas para llegar a Tamazunchale desde Berriozabale donde vivimos). 

Kayley had a very unique experience traveling to the Philippines with a group from her University.  Here are a few photos to share some highlights./ Kayley tenia una experiencia única en las Filipinas con un grupo de su universidad. Incluyo aquí algunas fotos de su viaje.

Tomorrow is Easter Sunday and we are excited to attend church and celebrate that Jesus lives.  He is risen.  He is risen indeed!

Manaña es el día de la Resurreccion y estamos entusiasmados asistir la iglesia y celebrar que Cristo vive.  ¡El resuscitó¡  ¡Es cierto, El resuscitó!

We will be traveling to Nashville (Midsouth district) later this week for meetings, deputation services and then one week of vacation over Mother’s Day with all the family. 

Vamos a viajar a Nashville (distrito de MidSouth en los Estados) en la próxima semana para reuniones, cultos de deputación y después una semana de vacación celebrando el día de la madre con la familia.
