The New Year came too quickly for the Webbs. We had a great time in the USA for Christmas
and even though it was good and cold, we enjoyed seeing many of our relatives
in Iowa. It was our first Christmas to
spend with family (other than the 4 of us) for seven years. I hope it won’t be another 7 years before we
can do it again.

Yep, it was cold and snowy. |
It has been constant action since we returned at 1am on
January 2nd. Work started the
next morning, and we fought off the sleepiness to get back to it. There is much to plan and prepare as the
New Year begins.
We have had many visitors this month. First the Armstrong family who now live in
the Dominican Republic were on campus for a long weekend. The next week the Slingerland family arrived. Kayley and Abby talked and giggled nonstop
for 3 days.
About that same time, the
Global NYI Council was on campus for meetings and it was fun to catch up with
old friends and meet some new ones as well.
In the midst of all that, the CALL language school began its
new term. With the weather, we had some
flight delays, but in the end everyone arrived within a day of two of their
scheduled time. The Gentrys are back in
classes with a new CALL professor named Nuria.
MNU sent two more student teachers this term: Hannah and Kara. They are sweet girls and great teachers.
Then Ted and Lori Bruce arrived shortly
after. They are a newly retired couple
from Missouri who want to serve as volunteers and know that Spanish will be a
help with that.
Finally, the Faucetts
arrived and began classes last week. They are also a retired couple who are
anxious to learn Spanish and begin serving the Lord wherever He may use
them.
CALL is off to a great start
this year! If you want to learn more, check out the CALL website at www.callcostarica.com or the facebook page at CALL or Christian Academy of Language and Learning. We would love to have you join us too.

The January CALL students at Volcan Poas. |
David has been keeping busy as we prepare for the yearly
Conventions and Assemblies. He will be
traveling some this week with a small team and then he has two trips to the
indigenous area planned for February. It
will be non-stop travel beginning later this week, so pray he stays safe on the
roads as he goes from here to there.
Kayley and Joshua are both back to classes. Kayley is in 10th grade at ICS
here in Costa Rica, and Joshua is in his January Term class at Mount Vernon
Nazarene University in Ohio. Kayley has
remained in gymnastics even after her little accident in November, and proudly
announced the other day that she had done the same flip once again that she was
injured doing before. That girl is
brave! She said she did it the best of
anyone in the class.
Most of you will think of Feb. 2nd this year as either Groundhog Day or SuperBowl day, but for Costa Ricans, it is election day. It is a 3 way tie from what I hear, which will mean run off elections a month later. It will be an interesting day, no doubt.
The Costa Rican District Assemblies will take place February
5th and 6th, so please pray with us as these important
meetings take place. Also, a team from
the Iowa district will be working here in February. We look forward to seeing
our friends on this team and working alongside them now and then as we can
break away from the office and travels.
If you look back at the beginning of this blog, you will see
that we have been living in Central America for more than 8 years now and in
Costa Rica for 7 years, 25 days. Very soon we will be able to say we have lived in Costa Rica longer than we (David and Shelley, as adults) ever lived anywhere. We were in Tennessee for 7 1/2 years, so in June we will match that time in Costa Rica. Wow, how time flies!
Once again we say THANKS for your kind words, prayers and support. You are very much appreciated.
Many blessings to you and yours,
